This Saturday, October 29th at 7pm, get  your Halloween spirit on with this smart, quirky independent film entitled “Zombie Dearest”.  This film is the second in a series of films being shown at Arts Collinwood in partnership with Independent Pictures.  The critics called it Creepy and Hilarious!  This film will be shown in the Nan and Miles Kennedy Art Center and is free to the public.  Art School music classics will be played in the Cafe afterwards along with some seasonal food and drink specials!
Zombie Dearest is a romantic black comedy with its very own take on the modern zombie; a scary, quirky comedy that delivers cult horror in an award-winning indie film (Winner, Audience Favorite at The First Time Film Festival in Los Angeles). What Zombie Dearestlacks in blood, guts and gore, it more than makes up for with comic characters, outrageously funny situations and memorable dialogue, making it “Frightening and Hilarious” (Dan Goldberg, producer of The Hangover ), a fun diversion for everyone from the dedicated Zombie Walk aficionado to fans of Shaun of the Dead, Fido or Zombieland. If you like your humor with a pinch of current affair, watchZombie Dearest … very independent, very original… a cult classic in the offing.  Click here for more on this creeper www.zombiedearest.com.
On Wednesday, October 26th, Arts Collinwood will host a Beachland Ballroom concert featuring the music of Hamell on Trial in the Nan and Miles Kennedy Art Center.
Hamell on Trial is a one-man punk band bringing you (mostly) loud, fast music informed by politics, passion, energy and intelligence, played by a guy with a sharp tongue and a wicked sense of humor. 2011 launches Hamell into new territory, captivating audiences not only by his award-winning performances, but also a Kerouac-esque story of social commentary through years on the road. Ed’s live show contains no boundaries, bringing you more of his wildly genius infused rants while still being able to silence the crowd and break a heart or two. Visit www.beachlandballroom.com to purchase tickets. Doors open at 7:30pm, show begins at 8:30pm.

Beatboxing – The Fifth Element of Hip Hop, is an award-winning documentary film directed by German filmmaker, Klaus Schneyder and is the first of a four-film series to be shown at Arts Collinwood over the next few months in collaboration with Cleveland-based, Independent Pictures. Â The film will screen in the Nan and Miles Kennedy Art Center at Arts Collinwood on Friday, September 16th at 7:30 pm and is 56 minutes long.
It was in the late 70s that a youth culture evolved in the poorer parts of New York which combined several disciplines under the name of Hip Hop. Apart from the four classic elements of Graffiti writing, DJing, Breakdancing, and Rapping, the musical side of this culture was enhanced by a fifth element called ‘Beatboxing’.
From the hardship of poverty and the lack of instruments, a pioneer was inspired to imitate drum rhythms with his mouth – his brilliance creating the term ‘Human Beatbox’. Very soon other Hip Hop artists picked up his style and added this technique of music making to their own shows, but at that time beatboxing never left the realm of Hip Hop culture.
At the end of the 80s the first big wave of beatboxing was over and beatboxing only existed in an underground scene. It took until the late 90s that the art of Human Beatboxing was explosively revived. At that time the Internet had emerged and offered new ways of communication for young artists. All of a sudden beatboxers from all over the world were given the opportunity to connect and share their knowledge on websites through videos and online tutorials.
Since then Human Beatboxing has become a global phenomenon, which is organized and celebrated in the annual Beatbox Conventions and through Beatbox Competitions, that are being held in an increasing number of countries every year.
The documentary aims at providing a full picture of this incredible art form starting with its genesis within Hip Hop Culture and continuing with its further developments and its use in various musical fields in several countries throughout the world.
The documentary features artists from New York, California, Florida, Spain, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Belgium, Canada, Austria and Germany, who demonstrate their amazing techniques, which often seem impossible to audiences at first sight, but see for yourselves…http://www.youtube.com/watch?

An Evening with John Kalman + Chris Anderson
8pm
Since we have such a diverse audience and lots of space we thought: “lets hold two music events in the same night!”
Cleveland Hero, and all around good dude John Kalman has been writing songs for years, but with stints in several of the more popular bands in Clevo- Roue’ and currently Founding Fathers – He never really played them in public. This year John made his first solo record – A Backward Poet Writes Inverse, and we loved it. So here we are its National Record Store Day, and we asked Mr. Kalman to play.
The music starts at 8pm with Chris Anderson opening.
We can’t think of a better way to spend our early Saturday evening. Guess you won’t have to leave Waterloo on Record Store day!
No Exit New Music Ensemble performs a wonderful evening of new work at Arts Collinwood Gallery this Saturday, April 16.
The performance begins at 7pm, and is FREE and Open to the Public.
No Exit is gearing up for it’s most ambitious series of concerts yet. The group was formed by Cleveland composer Timothy Beyer to serve as an outlet for the commission and performance of contemporary avant-garde concert music.
“ We’ve placed a strong focus on championing the work of both
talented young composers and spotlighting local composers who
represent the best that our region has to offer,†explains Beyer.
“Our goal is to present exciting programs to Northeast Ohioans,
music they’ve most likely never heard before. We really want to
challenge our listeners to experience music in a different way.â€
To that end, No Exit’s April series of concerts promises to be a
truly unique musical happening. Beyer says, †With this program
we want to create an environment in which our patrons can really
become immersed in what’s going on.â€
The concerts will feature works by Morton Feldman, Andrew
Rindfleisch, Nicholas Underhill, Timothy Beyer, Kaija Saariaho
and two world premieres, both commissioned for No Exit – Steve
Antosca’s electro-acoustic piece Exit and a multi-media
collaboration between composers James Praznik and Derrik
Balogh titled Almost a New Man.
