On Saturday July 17th Arts Collinwood has partnered with the Euclid Beach Adopt-A-Beach Team to bring you a day of free summer festivities, family fun and environmental awareness at Euclid Beach Park!
The day kicks off with a beach clean up at 11am. Join members of the Euclid Beach Adopt-a-Beach team as we clean and screen Euclid Beach! Then, grab your shovels and start building your best sand creations for a sand castle contest you do not want to miss! Get ready for lots of great prizes! After all that hard work, enjoy a cookout and entertainment by local artists along with Cleveland’s very own Show Wagon! And don’ forget to make and toot your own horn in an instrument making workshop with Cleveland’s own Dr. Craig Woodson. Walk the promenade and learn about lakefront preservation. Visit information tables from the Alliance for the Great Lakes, The City of South Euclid, Northeast Shores Development Corporation, The Friends of Euclid Creek and more! Finally, end the day with some good old fashioned storytelling that the whole family will enjoy!
Volunteers interested in participating in the beach cleanup should be advised to wear closed toed shoes, dress appropriately for the weather and apply both sun screen and bug repellent. Disposable gloves, trash bags, trash pickers, rakes and refreshments will be provided to cleanup participants at registration.

Appreciation Night For The Mother Ship November 20
The artists and merchants of Waterloo invite artists to donate work for a Beachland Ballroom Appreciation Night on November 20. Donated pieces will be displayed in Waterloo stores and galleries, with bags for depositing purchased tickets. To contribute in any way, contact Debbie Gulyas (Blue Arrow Records and This Way Out) at pete.debbie1960@sbcglobal.net, or Jerry Schmidt (Waterloo 7 and Wunderkind) at sculptor1121@yahoo.com.
The Shoparooni Art Bomb (December 4 – January 1)
Shoparooni is looking for giftable art and handcraft from local designers and artists. The work will be shown in a gallery setting, but this is not a gallery show. No one will be giving your life-size self-portrait to granny for Christmas (not for Chanukah, either); Shoparooni is looking for jewelry, clothing, prints, ceramics, candles, soaps, plush, knits, bags, stencil art, reclaimed vintage, and other handmade or small run goods. Get more info and keep up to date on the shop’s event page http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=165495586416.
A few guidelines: Stuff looks better when there’s lots of it. Don’t bring only one or two of anything. Feel free to help set up your display – Marlee and her crew aim to promote artists as well as sales. Holiday shopping during a recession is hard — the under $10 and under $20 pieces are everyone’s best friend. If you submit product photos with your pieces, it will make Shoparooni smile, and they’ll be able to list it on their website!

Get out the sunscreen, the beach umbrella, the shovels and pails – Arts Collinwood is going to the beach for a whole afternoon and evening!
The day starts with a beach clean-up (an excellent opportunity to collect found objects to enhance your sculpture) with the collaboration of Alliance for the Great Lakes. Then, unless you’re really a pro, take in the sand-sculpting workshop at 2:00, to learn some tips and techniques, before entering the contest itself (prizes – usually plentiful, remember that the sculptors are mostly children and artists – will be announced at 6:00); and hang around for the campfire cook-out – hot dogs, s’mores and storytelling at sunset – to wrap things up. Or choose any of these wonderful ways to appreciate our great lakefront.
Villa Angela Beach, enter from Lakeshore Blvd at E174.
This is a free event! Snacks and drinks will be for sale. Don’t forget to bring your tools!Check out the above photos from last year’s event!
Schedule:
12:00 p.m. – Beach Clean-up with the Alliance for the Great Lakes
Come make our lakefront beautiful! Feel good about making a contribution to the community and find inspiration for your sand sculpture.
2:00 p.m. – Sand Sculpture Workshop
Learn some cool sand building techniques and get tips from the pros. Take your sand sculpture to the next level. Bring your own tools (shovels, pails, cups, etc.).
4:00 p.m. – Sand Sculpture Contest
After the workshop, start creating your masterpiece! Skipping the workshop? Feel free to get started earlier. Bringing a team for a group piece? Need more time to create your amibitous sculpture? Set up early to give yourself plenty of time before judging.
6:00 p.m. – Prizes!
Categories for kids, families, artists, and teams. Be sure to stay for the judging to claim your prize.
7:00 p.m. – Join us ‘round the campfire!
Hot dogs, drinks, and snacks will be fore sale. Plus s’mores, storytelling, music and a beautiful Lake Erie sunset acting as a backdrop for all the sculptures. A great way to wrap up a day of fun on our great lake.

NOT YOUR MOTHER’S REFRIGERATOR!
Magnets cannot hold these kids down!
Youth artists ages 5 to 16 are encouraged to submit work for the newest show at Wunderkind. The show is the culmination of intern and gallery curator Rachel Hunt’s Senior Project.
Please lend us a helping hand and send us your drawings, paintings, photography, sculpture… any art under the sun! This exhibit will be a fun way to kick off the summer. Bands will play at night in the garden and attendance is expected to be phenomenal!
Art work MUST be framed. Inexpensive frames from craft stores work fine! Don’t spend big bucks on framing unless you want to! All work in this show must be up for sale. This is a great way to get a little money in your children’s piggy banks. 75% of selling price is yours to keep, no strings attached.
The gallery had two great openings in the past two months. Our grand opening drew 200+ people into Wunderkind and Waterloo 7! Let’s keep the momentum going and do it again!
