National Arts Program

The National Art Program is a way for Cleveland residents of all ages to get an opportunity to show their artwork. Click here to learn more about the competition and how you can register! Registration forms are due by March 19th at Arts Collinwood will host the final exhibit at the Gallery on March 30th.

Art Gallery Opening, February 10, 2012 at 6 pm, works on display through March 3rd, 2012.

The Arts Collinwood Gallery will feature the work of local artist, George Kocar. In the words of artist, Douglas Max Utter in the LakewoodBuzz:

“Kocar’s long-standing reputation as one of our area’s most out-there
and over-the-top painters is based on a legacy of instantly recognizable imagery.
For a quarter of a century, his wide-eyed, banana-nosed and round-toothed
characters have played out a unique satire ofcontemporary life in America.
His work has been exhibited at the Cleveland museum of Art, and in galleries
in Paris and New York. He is the subject of numerous articles and receipient of many prizes and awards. By any standard, Kocar is one of Cleveland’s true originals.”

GuitarMania® 2012 Guitar Designs to be shown at the Arts Collinwood Gallery

Arts Collinwood Gallery is pleased to have been chosen to host the GuitarMania® 2012 designs that have been submitted by nearly 200 artists. The designs will be viewed by sponsors at a private gala opening. After that, the designs will be on view for the public from Friday, January 13 through Friday, February 3rd on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am-11pm and by appointment. Come and check ‘em out!

About GuitarMania
GuitarMania^® is a Greater Cleveland community public art project that has raised $2 million for its two benefiting charities – United Way of Greater Cleveland and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum’s education programs. The project consists of large, 10-ft-tall Fender^®Stratocaster^® guitars creatively transformed into works of art by local artists and national celebrities. The guitars are displayed on the city streets of Cleveland for residents and visitors to enjoy from the end of May through October, 2012. Corporations, organizations and individuals sponsor the guitars and select from a variety of local artists to paint, sculpt or decorate them. Celebrity artists also paint and decorate guitars.

Sponsors of GuitarMania 2012 include KeyBank and Fender.

Arts Collinwood introduces a new program, ArtPath

Arts Collinwood is pleased to announce our new art program for students in grades 9-12. The program, ArtPath, will lead the students on the path of the printmaker. Students will learn basic printmaking techniques, go on field trips, produce their own prints on paper and fabric and participate in an art and fashion show at the end of the program. There is no cost to participate in this program. To register for the class please, fill out the form below or contact Arts Collinwood at a.callahan@artscollinwood.org to have a copy mailed to you. Forms are also available at Arts Collinwood Thursdays through Saturdays from 11am-11pm. ArtPath is generously funded by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and The Ginn Foundation. ArtPath is a no-cost, arts learning program for students in grades 9-12 designed to provide a hands-on creative experience combined with arts education and presentation.

This year’s ArtPath program is entitled Printmaking Basics on Paper and Fabric

What you will learn:

Learn the basics of printmaking from a professional artist.
Learn about famous printmakers and go on fieldtrips to see actual prints, print shops and fashion designs.
Create your own prints on paper and fabric.
Participate in peer critique sessions.
Meet local printmakers and fashion designers who will visit your class.
Show your design at an exciting print and fashion show in the Arts Collinwood Gallery in May.

Classes begin at Arts Collinwood in the Nan and Miles Kennedy Art Center on Thursdays from 3:00pm-5:00pm beginning January 26, 2012 and will run through May, 2012. A “Mad” New Year’s Eve at the Cafe at Arts Collinwood

Check out the neon light designed by Jeff Chiplis on display at the Cafe at Arts Collinwood. What a great addition to the “Mad Men” themed New Year’s Eve Party!

Show us just how dapper you can be this New Year’s Eve! This year we will party like it’s 1965!
Ladies, put on your finest 60′s vintage dress, slide on your evening gloves, and don’t forget your cigarette holder. Gents, suit jackets, skinny ties and Brylcreem are essential.
The fun starts at 7:30 pm. Enjoy the soothing, vinyl sounds of the 60′s; enter the best Madmen/Madwoman costume contest; partake in handmade vintage cocktails made by the marvelous mixological skills of Sasha and Eileen AND
enjoy a toast of Champagne at midnight!
Even if you can’t make it for the entire evening, swing by for a “pinky up” drink on your way out, or back in. This conga line will be rolling until 12:30am, 2012 !!

“My City” Locally-made film Premiere at Arts Collinwood on Wednesday, December 28th

Don’t miss the premiere of ”My City” starring Corissa Bragg, local singer/songwriter/actress and bartender at the Cafe at Arts Collinwood. The film, which was partially filmed at Arts Collinwood, was written and directed by local filmaker, Kyle Retter and follows a young Cleveland musician, played by Bragg on her quest for fame in Cleveland. Arrive at 6pm for snacks and cocktails, then stay for the premiere which will start at 7pm. Entry is free, but please feel free to purchase food and cocktails from Arts Collinwood, a nonprofit that supports arts programs for the community.

Later…just down the street….Corissa will be performing her last Cleveland show before she leaves for India with a full band at the Beachland Tavern. She will be performing new songs and songs featured in ‘My City’. Show will start at 8pm and admission is $8.

Jazz it up at the Cafe on Christmas Eve Eve!

Make some merry this evening, Friday, December 23rd at the Cafe at Arts Collinwood! Stop by for some holiday cheer and some cool jazz with the New Jazz Quartet!! Music begins at 8 pm. Partake in lots of holiday drink and food specials. Start the holiday weekend off right with a visit to the coolest neighborhood in town, the Waterloo Arts District in Collinwood. Vendors on the street will be selling their wares including records, fashion, vintage clothing, toys, Cleveland t-shirts and more…not to mention a street full of music and concerts at Arts Collinwood and the Beachland Ballroom. Merrymaking at its best!

“The Pill”

After a one-night stand, Mindy informs Fred she’s not on the Pill. Now what? “The Pill” is directed by NYU Film School grad J.C. Khoury.

Jonathan W. Hickman, Daily Film Fix writes, “The Pill is the model of independent efficiency. There are no wasted parts. It’s the kind of film that should be on the IFC Spirit Award short list…”

This film shows at 7pm in the Nan and Miles Kennedy Art Center and is a no-fee event!

Bert Dennis and the New Jazz Quartet perform in the Cafe at Arts Collinwood from 8pm-11pm this evening. Christmas Ale on tap and great bistro food is always available.
